About Avani-Mitra

Project Avani-Mitra is a forest conservation project on a piece of land owned by us (Shivangi and Chandrashekhar) in village Muchari in Konkan region. We also work with the locals to include and engage them in conservation activities and also cultivate some basic native crops like rice, millets, horse gram and turmeric (primarily for self consumption and excess is offered for selling)

Project Avani-Mitra came into existence in the year 2013. It consists of about 40 acres of jungle land which is home to numerous native flora and fauna. It is situated in village Muchari which is about 13 kilometers from Sangameshwar bus station.

We Chandrashekhar and Shivangi Datar have been born and brought up in cities like Pune and Mumbai. We both have served in the Corporate sector and voluntarily quit our jobs when we turned 50. However, since 2012-13, we have been consciously working on adapting an environment friendly lifestyle. This blog documents the experiments we have carried out and the experiences we have gained while adapting to an alternate lifestyle. Do read the articles and provide us your feedback.
